Another school year has come to a close, and thus it is time to bid farewell to another class of Psi seniors. From leadership positions and helping hands to new members to late night meetings and countless hours devoted to both band and Psi, these seniors have truly left a lasting impact on our organization. Though this year's unexpected ending meant many cherished traditions to honor these wonderful individuals were cancelled or postponed, we hope you will join us in celebrating their accomplishments here and welcoming them into the alumni community. I hope to apply the wide spectrum of knowledge that I learned at UCLA to my future career and continuously learn and grow. ” Looking forward as an alumna: “Giving back to the Psi chapter as a mentor and engaging with the UCLA band and all of its traditions from an alumni’s perspective.” Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “Getting to perform for Michelle Obama’s College Signing Day will always be a memory I will treasure. Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “My favorite place to study on campus is the patio on the third floor of the Physics and Astronomy Building! I only found it during my second year at UCLA, but it’s really nice (although sometimes physics labs do experiments up there which is not fun)." I'm planning on applying to Clinical Psychology Ph.D. programs within the next two years.” Looking forward as an alumna: “Coming back to see degrees and shows at all the games! I'm also really excited to have some free time, and to spend some time getting to know myself again without the pressure of school." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “I was in the group that recorded with BTS this year - it was such a terrifying and amazing experience and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it! I also finished an honors thesis looking at the effectiveness of the UCLA Learning Assistant Program this year, which I'm very proud of :)." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “I was in TEA@UCLA. The Themed Entertainment Association. What I think is really cool is that I was in the UCLA TEA chapter ever since it was founded. Matthew Chin Future Residence: South San Fransico, CA Instrument: Alto Sax Major: Materials Science and Engineering Class: BY Plans after graduation: “I'm going to graduate school for a Masters degree.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “Continuing to connect with my fam and watch them grow!" Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “The coolest club I participated in at UCLA was marching band :') I never imagined I would've spent all four years of my undergraduate experience immersed in marching band, but I'm so glad I did!" Vito Emanuel Future Residence: Los Angeles, CA Instrument: Trumpet Majors: English, Political Science Class: BY Officer Position: Brotherhood Relations Officer (2017-18) Plans after graduation: “I'm planning to spend 1-2 gap years working for a nonprofit, then law school thereafter.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “Being able to reconnect with new and old faces alike at degree and being part of a lifetime network of friends and bands-members." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “Personally, it was writing for the Undergraduate Law Journal at UCLA! I had a really academically enriching experience and it was great to dip my toes in legal scholarship. A more fun activity was definitely writing news pieces and op-ed columns for the Daily Bruin. Knocking down professors' doors and holding administrators accountable was rewarding, and to feel like I was helping inform my community made it all the better. Of course, marching band was a constant highlight throughout my time at UCLA as well -- I have made enough friends here to last two lifetimes." Daniel Fernandez Future Residence: Los Angeles, CA Instrument: Tuba Major, (Minor): Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (Public Health) Class: BY Officer Position: Secretary (2018-19), President (2019-20) Plans after graduation: “I'm going to enter the application cycle for medical school and kinda see what happens!” Looking forward as an alumnus: “I think that graduating provides the opportunity for a reinvention and a chance to do more things outside of school I'm excited to try and find a place outside of the UCLA class room." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “I didn't learn how to use chopsticks until spring quarter of Freshman year lol" Keegan Fowler Future Residence: Huntington Beach, CA Instrument: Trumpet Major: Electrical Engineering Class: BY Plans after graduation: “I'm continuing to work at TAE Technologies as a controls engineer for C2W (their fusion reactor). I'll be staying around LA though don't worry.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “I'm most looking forward to seeing what a UCLA game is like without an instrument in front of my face. Also just the overall freedom associated with creating my own future." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “For my senior project I developed an instrument and chord recognition system using a sample database created by members of the UCLA Marching Band." I hope to do something with software development or data analysis, especially in healthcare systems.” Looking forward as an alumna: “I won't have the absurd amount of homework I do now, I'll get PAID, and I'll be making an actual impact in the world (hopefully)!" Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “I got a selfie with Sabrina Williams on BruinWalk my freshman year. " Justin Nguyen Future Residence: Los Angeles, CA Instrument: Alto Sax Major: Human Biology and Society Class: BY Officer Position: Historian (2018-19) Plans after graduation: “I'm currently working in a COVID patient sample testing lab, and set to start a medical scribe position in the fall. I ultimately plan on applying to medical school next year, and try and make some films on the side on the way.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “I look forward to hopefully acting as a mentor to Psi actives in the future!" Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “Had a blast elevating Psi history with comedy during my run as Historian. In addition, I acted in two Vietnamese Culture Nights, and wrote/directed this year''s Vietnamese Culture Night, titled "49 Days" (which thankfully was early enough not to be cancelled by COVID). I've done a lot of hospital volunteering, and had the pleasure of conducting a year's worth of mostly independent thermotolerance research on C. elegans in my research lab. Fun fact, I've purchased way too much coffee on campus during my time as a student." Jacob Re Future Residence: Green Bay, WI Instrument: Trumpet Major: Cognitive Science Class: BY Staff Position: Trumpet Section Leader (2018-2020) Plans after graduation: “Returning home to Wisconsin to apply for grad school, then returning to LA in the fall of 2021. ” Looking forward as an alumnus: “Looking forward to having a short break from school, as well as being able to build up my resume. " Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “My most memorable experience was definitely the 2 week long basketball trip to the east coast with the women’s team in 2019." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “The people are wonderful and I will treasure those relationships deeply!" Michael Stranieri Future Residence: Huntington, NY Instrument: Tenor Sax Major, (Minor): Statistics (Mathematics) Class: BY Staff Position: Equipment Crew (2017-18), Equipment Crew Head (2018-2020) Plans after graduation: “I'll be working at NYCB as an Internal Audit Data Analyst and plan on attending grad school in a few years, either while working or after I finish working.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “I'm definitely looking forward to having some more freedom and being able to enjoy time after work without worrying about any exams or commitments." Fun Fact/Favorite Memory: “Taking my GE cluster in sustainability through the lens of food had a fairly substantial impact on my dietary habits and was a real eye-opener in seeing how red meat leaves a massive carbon footprint. For 3+ years I committed to vegetarian lunches at UCLA as my way of reducing that footprint :)" Justin Wolfman Future Residence: Los Angeles, CA Instrument: Clarinet Major: Materials Science and Engineering Class: BY Staff Position: Woodwind Rank Leader (2017-2019), Clarinet Section Leader (2018-2020) Plans after graduation: “I will be continuing at UCLA to get a master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering.” Looking forward as an alumnus: “I can't wait to see the band at the Rose Bowl from the stands (and to tailgate finally!)"
