The Role of Music in the Psi Chapter
Membership in the UCLA Marching Band is required to be recognized for membership in the Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. This is the common bond in which we share, and what keeps us unified throughout the school year, through our own events, events with the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, and events with the entire UCLA Band.
Recently, the Psi Chapter voted to change the name of the office of "Music Chair" to "Director of Music" and promote it to the fifth position in our gavel order in an effort to show the significance of music to our chapter. In addition, we require our members to attend or engage with some music event, either external to our chapter, or organized by our Director of Music. Traditions such as compiling a "Song of the Week" playlist, where Brothers can suggest songs to a Spotify Playlist that match that week's theme, and RePSItals, where Brothers are invited to do an in-meeting performance, also prevail.
The Psi Chapter also works closely with our sister chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, Epsilon Kappa, to put on events before, during, and after marching season to connect the members of the UCLA Band. Events such as a pre-Band Camp pizza party, Ice Cream Socials, an infamous Assassins game, and even a trip to Six Flags are organized to assure that band members feel kinship towards each other both on and off the field.
