Service at Locke High School

Sukhi Bassi, Christina Martin, and Casey Armstrong stop for a photo in front of the Locke High School Band Program logo, painted by the Psi brothers several years ago.

Over the month of May, Kappa Kappa Psi brothers were happy to be able to help the Locke High School band program prepare for their June 1st Concert. The band program at Locke was reinstated a few years ago under the leadership of Mr. Cotton, and now Mr. Stickman. Locke currently has a beginning band, concert band, and wind ensemble, all of which are rapidly improving as the band program grows.

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, brothers traveled to Locke High School, where they led sectionals and assisted in concert run-throughs. During sectionals, brothers helped students improve their technique, timing, and instrument care. During the concert run-throughs, brothers had the chance to provide further mentoring by playing alongside the band, fine-tuning musicianship, and providing concert performance tips.

At the concert, the three bands played a mix of classical music and movie soundtracks, including selections from Disney films, Duel of the Fates from Star Wars, and the Game of Thrones. During the intermission, guests enjoyed cookies and refreshments provided by the Psi Chapter. The concert was quite the success. The expected turnout for the performance was far exceeded–the auditorium seats were completely filled!

We are excited to return next year and help Locke reach greater heights!
