In January, we welcomed 24 excellent band members into the Beta Upsilon candidate class. All quarter long, they have been hard at work learning about Kappa Kappa Psi’s history, the UCLA band’s history, the Greek alphabet, the Western District–and most importantly, what it means to be a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi. They have completed all four events they are required to organize and carry out.
For their service event, they built shelves for the shed in Pauley Pavilion where large instruments are kept during basketball season. Previously, the shed had been a huge mess because of the lack of shelving. As a result of many hours of painstaking work by Beta Upsilon, the instruments in the shed are now well-organized and easy to access.
For their fundraising event, Beta Upsilon sold Valentine’s Day goody-bags, complete with fun memes. For their brotherhood event, our candidates took a trip to Dockweiler Beach. Finally, for their brotherhood-sisterhood event, the candidates of Beta Upsilon and Alpha Phi made their own ice cream (!!!) and enjoyed it together.
Throughout the quarter, we have gotten to know our candidates much better through numerous interviews, planned and spontaneous hangouts, and meetings. We hope to welcome them into the Psi Chapter as full-fledged brothers soon! Third Degree is coming up: Friday, April 7th!
