They must also experience the responsibilities of being a Brother on a smaller scale; they plan and execute a service project, a fundraiser, a social event, and a joint event with the sorority candidates.

The candidates’ progress is marked by three ceremonies called Degrees. These ceremonies are closed to Fraternity members only and form a very meaningful part of Fraternity tradition. Only once the candidates have passed through Third Degree can they become active Brothers. Most recently, the Beta Omicron class was initiated on April 14, 2012. Band members nominated during the 2012-2013 academic year will have the chance to join the Beta Pi candidate class.

Not sure what ΚΚΨ is? Not sure if you’re interested in joining our Chapter? Here are some frequently asked questions that may help you understand who we are, medstore what we do, clinic and how we operate.

However, you can always get the best information by talking to our brothers in person. If you have any specific questions, you can also direct them to us via our contact page.

What is Kappa Kappa Psi?
We are an honorary band fraternity. Our brothers are chosen from the UCLA Bruin Marching band. We primarily serve our band and the UCLA community. We also form close relations of brotherhood and sisterhood within our organization and the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of the band sorority.
How are you different from other fraternities?
We aren’t a social fraternity, we’re focused on service. That means we don’t party or drink as a Chapter. We also don’t use terms with derogatory connotations, like frat or pledges, and we never haze our members. But probably the biggest difference between us and other fraternities is that we’re just a big group of band geeks.
See the national Fraternity’s policies
Can anyone join?
Our Fraternity is co-ed (open to both men and women), but only members of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band can join.
Why join?
Every brother gets something different from their experience in Chapter. Common reasons for joining have been wanting to give back and serve the band, pursuing leadership opportunities, and joining a close group of brothers and friends. But the best way to find out why we’ve joined is to ask a brother!
How can I join?
As an honorary fraternity, membership is not open to everyone. You must be invited by the Fraternity to join. Outstanding band members are nominated to interview with us every winter. If we feel you’re suited for our organization, we will offer you membership.

What would I do to become a brother?
Prospective members must complete our candidate process to become active. Mostly you will be interviewing active brothers and sisters from the band sorority to become acquainted with our organizations. Lessons will teach you Fraternity history, UCLA band history, and the Greek alphabet, and must pass a test on this information. Your candidate class will also plan and execute several events, to simulate what it’s like being active.
What would I do as a brother?
Brothers’ commitments include attending weekly meetings and participating in service projects, fundraisers, and social events. Brothers may choose to take on additional responsibilities by running for office. Your level of involvement is up to you, and you get out of the experience what you put into it.

Since both are co-ed, what’s the difference between the band fraternity and sorority?
The sorority focuses on women in band and their purposes have some differnces. Whichever organization you joint, you’ll get to serve the band and accept leadership opportunities. The best way to figure out which organization you’re best suited to is to talk to brothers and sisters and see which group you fit with.

From January 29th through January 31st this year, phimosis PsiEK hosted the Western District’s first ever Calivada State Days (now including the University of Nevada, diagnosis Reno)!

Friday, January 29th
We kicked off the weekend with Game Night in Schoenberg, followed by the PsiEK version of Carpe Noctem–six teams, six stations at various UCLA landmarks, and loads of fun pictures.2016statedays1Saturday, January 30th
On Saturday morning, we filled hungry stomachs with pancakes at our Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, after which we took to the Sunset Recreation Center lawn to play a huge game of Oh Captain, My Captain. We spent the rest of the morning and some of the afternoon serving the band by tidying up the PsiEK closet, uniform closet, and equipment room, finding some PsiEK artifacts every now and then. Then it was off to the men’s basketball game against Washington State. But we weren’t done yet–still full of energy, we headed downtown to Night on Broadway 2016 for some live music and entertainment in Broadway’s historic theaters.2016statedays2Sunday, January 31st
On Sunday morning, we closed with some arts and crafts. Every Calivada State Days attendee got to make and take home a DIY spray-painted KK? or TB? T-shirt! It was a fun-filled weekend of brotherhood and sisterhood, and we hope to see everyone again at WDC and future district events!

  • On Wednesday, link four UCLA musical organizations joined together for a quadly concert. Members of Kappa Kappa Psi, patient Tau Beta Sigma, pregnancy Sigma Alpha Iota, and Phi Mu Alpha showcased their musical talents which varied from playing guitar to singing in harmony.

The whole event was humble – it consisted of about 5 acts performed in front of a small, but respectfully engaged, audience sitting scattered across the Schoenberg Choir Room. I had the honor of opening the concert alongside a sister, Emily Tsai; we played a piccolo duet. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the process of rehearsing and performing our wild and adorable piece, I think the audience took more joy out of the fact that we used 4-5 stands to hold up our music and we had to move from one end to another when we had repeats. The concert continued with performances by the lovely Zack Jones and his soothing singing voice accompanied by guitar; Tony Rescigno presented an intricate piano piece; Chris Torres filled the room with a mellow melody on the baritone – accompanied by Zack Jones. The last bit of the concert was filled with a lot of singing… Mack Dimler and Patrick Chestnut graced the audience with a theatrical and comical performance of a duet, “Agony” from Into the Woods. It was highly snapchat-worthy. Then, the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha sang a series of songs and hymns in beautiful harmony. The concert was something that truly reminded me how important music is in bringing people together, especially in a music fraternity like Kappa Kappa Psi.
