Biography
Hola, me llamo Manuel and I was born in Culver City and raised in Van Nuys. I’ve only been in snow twice in my life, and it wasn’t even snowing. I love going to the beach and chilling in huge holes that I’ve dug in the sand with my friends. I don’t know how to surf but boogie boarding is pretty sweet. I love food and drink from all around the world–eating and drinking it, talking about it, bonding with people over meals, especially Mexican. I wish I had a lowrider, a ‘66 cherry red Impala. Man, crusing in that down Wilshire would be crazy.
Music, film, art and books are amazing, nuff said. I really like movies, especially anything by Akira Kurosawa, Terry Gilliam, Federico Fellini, Wes Anderson, Luis Buñuel y Perdo Almodóvar. The Marx Brothers are ridiculously clever and funny as is Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd. My favorite color is green and mosquitos bug me. Cows are funny animals and probably my favorite. Flying kites is way too much fun. Most of my favorite tid bits of reflection come from the late Kurt Vonnegut. Three of them are:
–”Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to remedy anything.”
–”A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”
–”Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.”
I don’t like talking about myself so it’s all written down here.
I don’t know why my bigs, Esther Lee(bro) and Stephanie Tashiro(sis), chose me but I’m sure glad they did. They’re always there for me and make sure I don’t get into too much trouble. Goodnight Ms. Lee and Ms. Tashiro, wherever you are!
